When you do search engine optimization work for your website, are you taking social marketing into account? It’s important to use social media tools when doing off page SEO. When you do this, you’re increasing your backlinks and potential for traffic to your site.

A big part of internet marketing and SEO is social marketing. There are a lot of available free social media SEO tools that you can use to help optimize your website or blog. Search engine optimization strategies work well when they are done while taking into account that the search engines look at relationships and if the sites you want to promote have relationships with other sites, it appears that all those sites are more relevant. Social media is a tool that can help anyone who knows how to effectively use it.

When doing your off page SEO; which includes things that happen outside of your website that will help your website, look for quantity and quality and relevancy. Quantity is always good but if you bring your site 1000 visitors that are not already prequalified as being likely to be interested in what you’re selling, your conversion rate probably won’t be very high.

Quality is important so be sure you’re attracting quality visitors. You wouldn’t direct people in a gambling forum to your Christian book club and vice versa. The more likely your visitor is interested in your information or product, the better. If you’re going to use social marketing tools to help your business flourish, look for relevancy and the right demographics.

Search engines do look at relevancy so there are things you can do to help your SEO efforts such as:

- Join community forums in your niche. You can find them in abundance. Post often and put your website in your signature. Not only will you network and get backlinks from a related site but you’ll be sharing information with people that are likely going to be interested in what you have to sell. The community forum signature line is very good for SEO so use it to your full advantage.

- Join microblogging sites like Twitter and Plurk and network with people interested in your niche. You can post an update to new product releases and blogs. These sites may not seem like much at first glance but the more users you follow and the more that follow you, the better your traffic and SEO can be.

- If your site is a blog, join blogging networks like Technorati, MyBlogLog or Blog Catalog so people can find you based on tags and categories

- Use social bookmark tools like StumbleUpon and Digg. You can get additional backlinks and visitors this way.

- Join online profile sites which can help you put your URL in your profile and increase your backlinks. There are dozens of sites like this that you can join for free and put your URL or multiple URLs into.

Search engine optimization is an ongoing effort that can bring you fruit in both search engines and in terms of valuable traffic. On page SEO will help you once people get to your site so don’t forget to learn SEO tactics for optimizing on your website as well.

If you are making revenues (or trying to) from monetizing your forum or blog through advertising, the question you may have is how should you do it? That is, should you use advertising networks, Google AdSense, or sell directly and keep all the profits for yourself?

The answer to this will largely be a matter of personal taste and style, and temperament. And you may use a combination, of course.

With advertising networks, they serve advertising on your blog and share advertiser revenue for qualified clicks each time your blog’s visitors click on ads. There are a few different kinds of advertising networks and they share revenues in different ways.

Representative (or Rep) Networks generally revenue share; these are the ones who usually carry ad inventory for brand advertisers, larger companies. Targeted Networks focus on specific targeting technologies and usually also use revenue sharing.

Blind Networks use arbitrage; the official investing and marketing definition of arbitrage is “a risk-free transaction consisting of purchasing an asset at one price and simultaneously selling that same asset at a higher price, generating a profit on the difference.” In other words, you’ll buy the rights to the advertising inventory outright, then try to make your money back and get to where it’s making you a profit.

The advantage of advertising networks is clear: they have tons of already-made advertising inventory and they’re waiting for you to knock on their virtual door. The downside is equally clear: they can be costly or eat into your profits, and also especially for Reps your blog may not qualify for their services (such as if you don’t have enough traffic).

What about Google’s AdSense, the system by which you allow AdWords to show up on your blog? Well, it costs you nothing to set up, it’s relatively attractive and subtle (so it doesn’t junk up your blog), and if you have enough traffic at your blog or forum you can indeed make a decent revenue from it. The downside is: everybody’s doing it, meaning the competitiveness of the ads that appear on your blog is likely to be watered down; and, once again Google takes their cut. So it’s questionable how BIG your profits may get from AdSense.

Finally, you might want to consider direct advertising - that is, selling advertising space at your blog and raking in 100% of the profits from this.

Through this you: set your own ad rates; enjoy direct contact with advertisers; have more diversity of advertising options and strategies to employ (banner or text link placeholders, shared advertising options with other bloggers, sponsorships of specific blog posts, and so on); and you have more payment options (you can negotiate with the advertisers without there being any middle man).

What are the problems? Well, basically, two exist. One, you may end up with a contract dispute and have your advertising clients demanding their money back. And speaking of advertising clients, they are more difficult to come by when you’re on your own. With greater freedom and potential profit always comes greater risk and responsibility! So if you choose this route, make sure you: create a hot, shamelessly promoting sell page for

advertisers to land on; and, offer them variable rates and different options.

Finally, always weigh up what your blog means to you and think about how successful it is at directing traffic to other pages on your site, or to the products and services you sell. The point is always get the best out of what you have - if your blog is providing people with a service and also sends them to other pages which could bring in revenue fr you, do you really want people to click on ads and leave your site?

Internet marketing and advertising is getting more dynamic, and the tried and true offline model of multimedia marketing is making deep inroads into the Internet - the information superhighway is now even more high tech and interactive.

Articles and other text methods are great for advertising your products and services on the Internet and they allow us to share a certain level of our creativity with people who are always happy to read. However, such formats as the Podcast, Audio E-mail and Video are already sweeping over the Internet marketing world, and has the advantage of capturing our attention through high quality sound and images.

Video has always been a powerful marketing device because we are predominantly visual creatures, and a picture is worth 1000 words. There is no doubt that in this high paced world in which we live, we are becoming even more visually oriented and open to new formats and technologies. The current marketplace allows for videos to be made and uploaded cheaply and posted for free at places like Video Jug as well as the heavily trafficked YouTube. If videos are served on these

third party websites, anyone can embed a bit of code and show them on their own website for free.

This is why it is now so simple to give your visitors what they want to see, as well as pleasing your advertisers with offering them formats they can use to be creative and to get an ideal message across.

Then, we move onto Podcasts, which are perfect for people who never sit still but want to gather information. The always-on-the-run person and the multitasker love podcasts, and they can be made to be very dynamic. And, again, they are el cheapo to produce and can be an excellent way of “going viral”, just like a well-tagged YouTube video can be. Podcasts can be used similarly to videos as well. Some market research professionals have estimated that by 2012 there will be 65 million people who listen to podcasts, up from the current approximately 20 million.

If you have a blog or website that receives a high amount of traffic, one way you can make a lot of advertising revenues is through the direct sale of sponsorships. This is where you sell an advertiser the right to have specific posts made that directly pertain to his product, thereby making it easier for him to target that market. Traditionally, the sponsored content appears as a sentence with a hoplink, either before or after the post. Do make sure that you make it clear that this is a sponsored section though. There is a lot in the press about certain search engines penalizing website owners for adding paid links to their sites, for the sole purpose of the payers improving their link popularity. If you do sell anchor text links on your pages for a fee, just make sure that you highlight that area as a sponsored section. You don’t want Google knocking down your page rank as a result.

So, with audio and the visual advertising formats rising on the Internet, why not sell podcast and video sponsorships? Since these media are more dynamic and on the rise, you can charge higher rates than for a text-and-picture post, and your advertiser enjoys the benefits of the multimedia marketing approach.

One thing to keep in mind: if you sell podcast or video sponsorships to make Internet advertising revenues, you’ll want to be sure the advertiser sells a product or service that ties in with the usual content of your site. It would be glaring and garish for, say, a video about women’s lingerie to appear on a site about Christian theology.

Mp3 players function the same way as DVD or CD players and radios, only that they differ in terms of size and memory. Gadget manufacturers have focused on reducing the size of technological gadgets and mp3 players do not escape this phenomenon. Mp3 players are practically small, no bigger than the size of a palm. When it comes to memory, mp3 players can store hundreds of songs depending on its memory size. Since mp3 players are small and can contain hundreds of songs, listening to music is very convenient compared to the earlier days of DVD or CD players and radios. And not only is listening to and carrying an mp3 player convenient, buying it is convenient as well. Mpr3 players can be bought online.

Buy Mp3 Players Online, Earn Great Benefits

When you buy mp3 players online, you benefit great rewards compared to buying at typical brick and mortar stores. Online stores do not usually incur expenses related to maintaining a typical brick and mortar store. As a result, they offer lower prices so they can attract more customers. Mpr3 players are often sold online at a regular low price or at a discount. You also save on postage and packaging when you buy mp3 players online. Most of the time, postage and packaging costs are shouldered by online stores.

Ever since online shopping started, a whole new meaning to shopping was formulated. Online shopping can be done at the convenience of one’s own time and home. You won’t have to follow store hours since websites are open 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Much is basically the same when you buy mp3 players online. Also, you get to read reviews and technical descriptions when you buy mp3 players online. There are a lot of mp3 players available in different architectural shapes and designs, and colors. These outside appearances can easily waylay you to the most important thing to consider in mp3 players-its memory. Fortunately, websites offer reviews and technical descriptions to guide you when you buy mp3 players online.

Secure Your Online Mp3 Player Purchase

Buying mp3 players online definitely spells convenience and savings. With online shopping, a great music experience is just a click away. However, there are certain things to consider when you buy mp3 players online.

1. Online store’s reputation. While the internet has been a good place for business, a lot of individuals have used it for fraudulent activities. Some websites promise to deliver products and services yet when delivery time comes; no product or service is actually delivered. So the first thing to consider when you buy mp3 players online is the store’s reputation. Do they deliver paid products as promised? You may check the store’s reputation by reading online forums and checking internet scam lists.

2. Return Policies. Since you do not get to check mp3 players for defects when you buy them online, ensure that the online store you buy from have return/replace policies. These policies are usually covered by warranties but when products have warranties, they usually cost more. Manufacturing defects are naturally unavoidable, so paying for a small price for warranty will definitely be worth it.

3. Payment Schemes. Nowadays, the internet is full of hackers who have nothing better to do than execute fraudulent activities on unsuspecting internet users. They steal almost anything: files, identity information and even money, during unsecured internet transactions. So when you buy mp3 players online ensure that payment schemes are secured. If you use a card to pay, your card must have a payout verification feature.

If you’re selling advertising on the Internet, you need to decide how to charge for it so that you can make your business as profitable as possible for the industry you are in. So, should you set a flat fee per month based on the advertising inventory you provide, or should you use CPM? This is something that only you can decide on.

If you do decide to charge on a cost per thousand (CPM) basis, this will mean charging your clients a figure whenever their ad has been displayed 1000 times. This is still a very popular model especially on Business to consumer websites and a lot of agencies will already be working with this pricing structure.

With this format, a website that has a CPM rate of $30 and guarantees advertisers 100,000 impressions, will charge $3000 ($30 x 100). The “M” is the Roman numeral denoting 1000.

You can use CPM charging to entice and sell to clients who don’t necessarily have deep pockets, like those who are putting together or building up affiliate marketing enterprises for themselves. These people are not planning on throwing out a lot of money on advertising; they prefer to pay as they go, as they see it as more cost-effective solution and it will be easier for them to track results. CPM is also a very good strategy for you to use as a selling model if you can prove through stats tracking that you get a certain minimum number of page impressions per month and that number is a high one - you can then use the fact of your high traffic to offer very competitive rates on advertising and make good profits on volumetric sales.

On the other hand, clients with deeper pockets for advertising budgets, such as brand name marketers who sell offline as well as online, move a lot of product, and have fierce competition. They will be much more open to paying monthly fees and this is especially true because they will not opt as much for click-through marketing strategies such as those pioneered by Google AdWords. Instead, they will want to grab people’s attention with banner style ads and to a certain extent they see advertising as a useful way of building awareness and creating visibility for their brand. These marketers are used to having some advertising that works and some that doesn’t, but they are willing to pay for the campaigns that do work for them.

This set price format is very popular in a business to business environment and prices generally range from $50 to $1000 per month. Of course, this does depend on the popularity of a section and/or page impression rates - whether the ads rotate and join other ads in the same location is another factor in determining price.

Many times marketers will also go through Internet Network Advertisers to find websites to advertise on; and many of these companies will want you to show a minimum number of unique visitors per month on your website to qualify. If you do go down the network route, make sure that you are paid the highest possible cut or commissions on your ads. You would be wise to try several providers first and this should only mean that you would have to paste in some code on your web pages for the ads to display and to be tracked.

If you’re an Internet marketer, you’ll want to track your activity and gather it into statistics on a monthly basis at least. You cannot adjust your marketing plan or strategy if you don’t know what’s working, what’s not working, and what the devilish details are–statistics tracking can certainly help you here.

There are some statistics trackers that are free or very cheap, such as free hit counters; these are “off server” trackers, so their main advantage is in their pricing. However, off server trackers don’t track with perfect accuracy, and they operate by “cumulative tracking”, which is not as useful as monthly, weekly, or Date Range searchable tracking.

There is another class of off server trackers for which you must pay a decent amount. These work more accurately in exchange for the money you pay, of course. What’s good about these is that when you move your hosting provisions they’ll move with you. They also offer a more robust amount of tracking data–they aren’t limited to the simple cumulative tracking which tells you nothing about the devilish details.

However, these might cost too much of your advertising budget if you are starting out or still small, and they still may not track as accurately as you desire.

Then there are the server side trackers. These are trackers that are typically on the same server as your website, and as a result your stats will be highly accurate, as these track all pages from all referral companies. You can use these to gather stat analyses on a monthly or weekly basis, and they’ll give you Date Range statistics, too.

But keep in mind that the hosting company might charge you extra for this service. Also, if you change hosting companies you won’t have access to the stats you had before the switch.

The first thing you want to pay attention to for your marketing purposes is the number of Unique Visitors that are coming to your site each month. If the same handful of people are hitting your site dozens of times a month that’s not very effective or profitable for you unless they are buying from you every time (which they aren’t).

Next, you want to see which other websites are referring prospects to your site.

If you have a load of links on other sites like article directories and standard listing ads, then you’ll need to know if these sites show up on your logs as referrers. This is a big part of your tracking and will enable you to monitor which sites (on a free or paid basis) are directing traffic to your site.

If the traffic from certain sites is substantial then you will want to keep a link on that site and possibly investigate if there is more you can do to improve click rates on the good ones.

The other way tracking is useful is in the way it gives you more information about what people searched for to find you. You can then analyze those keywords and optimise your web pages accordingly. For example, if someone typed in ‘Silver gemstone Jewelry’ on your ‘jewelry site (if you had one) then you could go to google, type in this exact term and then see where you are placed in the search results. If you are getting visitors from appearing on page 3, just imagine how many you could be getting if you were on page 1 for this term. You can then optimise that page and key term by getting more links into your site for that keyword.

If you are sure you have a hot product and a hot website but your statistics tracking shows you don’t have the best traffic frequency, it means you need to change your marketing strategy and how you optimise the main landing pages of your site. If your conversion rate from ‘landing to sale’ is poor, you need to write more specific content which is both unique and interesting to the type of visitors that will order from you.

There is considerable debate over which types of Internet advertising are the most effective, and how ads should be situated on a webpage to maximize revenues. To a large extent, you will need to tailor your website to the mindset of your target audience to consistently keep your advertising revenues at a significant level.

So for starters, what kind of advertising are you displaying on your website? Is it predominantly Google AdWords and similarly unobtrusive, subtle advertising? Or are you allowing banner ads and pop-ups for the most part?

Needless to say that for many, pop-ups are far and away the most annoying advertising that people have ever come across online. Pop-ups are used because they grab someone’s attention and, for this grabbing, they are cheap to the advertiser. The problem is they put people off. Some pop-up advertising has tried to be more subtle by floating across the page, then parking itself in the middle where the user can’t read much until the ad is either clicked through or “X’d” out. All the same, it’s generally best not to use pop-ups; they can give your website a very bad reputation.

Banner ads and videos can be highly effective even though they are still somewhat in-your-face. These don’t get in people’s way like pop-ups; they feel they have a lot more control about paying attention to them or ignoring them. What’s more, these kinds of ads can be aesthetically appealing. Magazine-style block ads have been shown to work well online, too.

So now the question arises: where is the best place for them on your webpage? Banners work best if they are across the top of the page but are VERY understated. If a banner is flashier, it’s most effective at the bottom of the page, although it is the general consencus that simple banners (and not highly animated ones) work best.

It is true that by placing banners at the bottom of your page where they are less likely to be seen, means the percentage of those who do see them and click them goes up. So, why is this? Well, it is understood that the website reader feels she got to read the information she sought first without being bothered and this results in higher clicks. Therefore it is sometimes a good idea to repeat the same banner at the top and bottom of pages to capture all comers! Banner ads can also work well if they appear in the middle of a page, but cannot be seen until the reader scrolls down.

Block ads should be placed on your website precisely like they are in magazines: in the left or right margin in a relatively narrow column. It is also worth mentioning that these ads are usually effective when they blend in and match the colour scheme and design of any text and images close to them.

As for Google AdWords and similar services, it is difficult to say with any certainty where they are best placed other than to say they should be higher up on the page, not toward the bottom. It is, however, most effective to show fewer in one spot than more. The web pages that show what seems like a waterfall of AdWords tend to be more off-putting to people; they will try to ignore the bombastic waterfall, even if it is subtle. Placing a section that shows three to five of these in the left or right margin, or in both margins, seems to work well. However, Google AdWords ads should not be made to show up too small and will ideally match the font and type size of the text on your page.

If you use videos, the most important thing is NOT to have them automatically start playing when someone visits the website. Give people the choice to click them and play them, as it is important to give them some control of what they watch and listen to. Videos that start to play automatically can sometimes be even more off-putting than pop-up ads, especially if the visitor has their speaker volume up too loud.

With online shopping becoming a billion-dollar market in Britain, analysts say that stores will be forced to change their business models to adapt.

Online shopping is poised to take 20p out of every UK consumer pound by the end of the year, a landmark milestone that analysts believe will make the channel a critical business for many high-street retailers.Although online shopping growth actually fell in June (the first time it has done so since 2005), the report predicts the economic downturn will encourage more consumer spend to go online, as shoppers hunt for bargains. Also, with the price of fuel at such all time highs, you have to count the cost of the shopping expedition as well as the prices of merchandise.

In CMR’s latest thought leader position for Forbes, we show that e-commerce is actually booming in China, driven by changing demographic demands, especially from Chinese youth. It is critical that companies begin to look at how to use the internet to drive sales. Not only should companies utilize the internet for marketing purposes, but they should look at it as a critical sales channel to Chinese youth who are increasingly turning to the internet to buy not just cheap items like books and DVDs but more complex and expensive products like electronics, luxury items, and clothes. This week, comScore Networks released the first in its latest series of studies geared at examining the online shopping activity of European citizens throughout the holiday season.

The initial data shows that French retail sites experienced the largest gains in the first three weeks of the holiday seasons, highlighted by a 79 percent increase in online shopping traffic for the week ending November 26th versus the pre-holiday average.

“While cyber shopping visits rose most quickly in Germany during the first week of the holiday shopping season, online shoppers in France have since become more active,” said Bob Ivins, managing director of comScore Europe.

“These gains show that consumers armed with high-speed access and positive online retail experiences are increasingly comfortable shopping online.”

Ivins continues, “As online spending continues to grow and account for a larger percentage of total consumer spending, the growth in online shopping could be the difference between a good Christmas and a great Christmas for many online retailers.”

Metrical analysis of the United States and Europe show trends of increased spending in online retail from last year, and the rate of transition from traditional to online shopping isn’t showing signs of slowing down anytime soon.

The larger question, however, lies in what all these numbers actually mean? How do you gauge these metrics to gain insight into actual user behavior rather than just dollars spent online?

Why are shoppers spending more time online rather than in traditional retail marketplaces? Is it just a matter of price, or does product availability and comfort factor into the equation as well?

If marketers are truly serious about gearing their advertising campaigns in contextually relevant ways, it will be important to ask the “why” question more and more in response to studies like this which reflect statistics, but give little insight into gauging consumer intent.

It depends on how far one lives from the store as well as the mode of transportation used. While it is hard to beat the greenness of walking across the street to your neighborhood grocery COOP and bringing your own containers for bulk purchases and canvas bags for the short walk back home, not everyone is fortunate enough to live in such close proximity to the marketplace. Not everyone even desires to live centrally.

Living in the country, a family on Wa$ted was addicted to online shopping. Wasteful? Yes, however, if it weren’t for the internet, they would probably still be addicted to shopping. The difference is that they would have to drive their gas guzzlers into the city to get their fix.

The US Postal Service, along with shipping giants such as Fed Ex and UPS are making the rounds anyway, driving close to most American households everyday, if not right past it. Even in the country. These services are like well-organized carpools for goods

Among the many advanced SEO techniques that most people fail to put into practice on their websites is an internal linking strategy that can be used to improve the way search engine spiders crawl your website, and also to optimize the Google Page Rank (correctly PageRank) for each page. Not only is it important to make sure that spiders are not leaving your home page too quickly, but also that you are not wasting Page Rank on pages such as your Contact or Privacy Policy pages.

Collar the Spiders

You can collar and attach a lead to search engine spiders and make sure that they don’t stray away from your web pages too soon, particularly your home page that is liable to receive the highest search engine listings.

Spiders work from top left to bottom right, and if you have tables on your site, they start with the top left table, and scan its contents first, then go the next table and so on. If your website is designed using tables rather than CSS, and you have a left hand navigation table and then a table containing the bulk of your content, the spider will read your top navigation link first, and leave your home page. It will not return until it hits the home page link.

It will therefore miss most of your content. The answer is either to place your navigation table to the left of your content, so it is visited after your content, or to use an empty table top left, then a content table, then a left aligned navigation table. That way the spider will visit the empty table, then your content and then your navigation table, which is still showing to the left of your content, but comes after it in your HTML.

You then receive the full benefit of your great keyword and semantically optimized content, rather than waste it by the spiders looking elsewhere for your main content. When relevance to a search term is calculated, (keyword), spiders give most weight to what is contained within your H heading tags, the first 100 or so characters in the body of the text, and your final paragraph. Your Title Tag is also very important, and you could put your company name and the main keywords there. That helps your branding and the calculation of your listing from the keyword.

Internal Linking Strategy

Now that you know where your links to appear to spiders, where should they point to? If your site is silo structured, then your home page should link to each of the main silos. Do not link to every page in your website, but to Level 2 pages that provide further links to your level 3 pages. That is because but Google’s Page Rank is calculated on internal links as well as external links. Only link your Home Page to every other page if you want the maximum possible share of your site PR for your Home Page.

Your total site Page Rank is equal to 1 vote for every page on your site. So if you have 20 pages, you have a 20 PR votes to distribute. That does not mean that you have a Google PageRank of 20 – far from it. Nobody but Google know how many links or PageRank points/votes are needed for each Page Rank vote. It could be 10 for a PR of 1, 100 for 2, 1000 for 3 and so on, or something completely different.

The internal Page Rank for each page in your site can be calculated since it is a function of both the page rank of pages it is linked to and the number of other links leaving that page. You can use this to maximize the PR votes for any page on your site, or spread them around pages you want listed highest. This calculation involves both internal links and external links.

In fact, you can make an appreciable difference to your SEO and Page Rank if you use a sensible internal linking strategy. With a 10 page website, if every page is linked to every other page, then your internal PR votes are one for every page. However, if you link Page A to page B and then Page B to every other page, and all pages back to Page A, you can give Page A 3.42 PR votes, page B 3.06 and the rest 0.44, thus optimizing the PR of your first two pages (note how these figures add up to 10: 1 for each page).

If you want to give your Home Page maximum votes, link it to every page in your site, and every page back only to the Home Page. For the same 10 page site, Page A then gets 4.67 Pr votes, and the rest 0.59.

However, for a silo site, it is best to have the main silo pages with a reasonable share of the votes, so link the Home Page to the main silos, and then each main silo to the sub-pages in their silo. Everything links back to A. This gives your Home Page 3.60 and your silo pages 1.17, the rest 0.40. There are several options in between these, but the point is that you can use linking strategy to maximise the PR for any page on your site.

No Follow: Beat the Spiders

The nofollow attribute was devise by Matt Cutts of Google. Its intention is to enable you to link to a page without giving that page a share of your PR. This can be used when you are linking to pages that have no outbound links, and for which a PR would not be meaningful. Google claim that it uses the term literally and does not follow the link at all, but test results have been conflicting, and it appears to follow it, but not index it.

Different search engines interpret ‘nofollow’ differently: Yahoo do not include pages linked by use of the attribute in their rankings but does follow it, MSN does not count links with ‘nofollow’ in their ranking and Ask ignores the attribute and follows everything!

It therefore appears that you can use the attribute to prevent spiders from leaving your site by following every link. From my own experience, I seem to get few spider visits to pages attainable by means of a ‘nofollow’ link, and so can use this to prevent spiders going where I want them to go.

The easiest way to do this, though , is by means of the Robots Exclusion code in the HTML for each page. You should use that on pages such as your Disclaimer, Privacy Policy and About page, and also on pages with a good amount of duplication such as pages where products are sorted by name, price, application and so on with a different page for each sorting method. The same for the same page written in different languages and duplicates where only the keyword is changed. All of these can get you in trouble and you should use the Robots.txt exclusion or a specific exclusion for each page involved.

Summary

Advanced SEO techniques can be used to lead search engine spiders where you want them, and prevent them from being sidetracked by poorly positioned links to other pages on your site. You can use your internal linking strategy to optimize the Page Rang votes for each page in website, and can also prevent some pages receiving a share of your sites page rank.

It is important that Google should be able to spider or list all of your pages, since that can not only dilute your overall PageRank but affect your listing position, but if you have too may low value pages being navigated and indexed by search engines, they may put you on a reduced crawling status. Try not to have lower value pages put on a crawling par with your higher value pages that you want listed higher in the SERPS.
